American Flag Pastries

INGREDIENTS

  • Pie pastry or puff pastry
  • Strawberries, sliced thin
  • Blueberries, halved
  • White sugar
  • Egg, mixed

DIRECTIONS

  • Preheat oven to 400F degrees
  • Mix strawberries with desired amount of sugar in one bowl
  • Mix blueberries with desired amount of sugar in another bowl
  • Start to cut pastry dough into rectangles. Make an indent line halfway through rectangle as a guide
  • On the right side of the rectangle, cut stripes all the way up to indent
  • On the left side, layer strawberries and leave top left for blueberries. Design to look like American flag
  • Gently fold stripes onto fruit and remove any excess or fold under pastry
  • Cut out pastry that lies on top on the blueberries
  • Place on parchment paper and brush egg wash onto the dough
  • Bake until golden brown (10 minutes more or less)
