Chris’ Favorite: Gyudon
Ingredients
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 1 pound thin red meat (top sirloin)
- 1 Tablespoon sugar
- 2 Tablespoons reduced sodium soy sauce
- 1 Tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 Tablespoon sake
- 3 eggs, beaten
- 1 green onion, sliced
- Cooked jasmine rice
Directions
- Add oil to pan (sesame or olive is fine), bring to medium-high heat
- Add onions and cook until translucent
- Add meat, and when mostly browned add sugar and stir
- Once meat is fully cooked, add soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sake
- Reduce heat to a simmer for 3 minutes, and then slowly pour in eggs in a spiral motion to distribute evenly
- Add green onions, put lid on pan, and lower heat
- Once eggs are cooked, serve with rice
Tip
In the photo, I added kimchi. I also made blistered shishito peppers, and a Japanese spinach salad.
