Chris’ Favorite: Gyudon

Ingredients

  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 pound thin red meat (top sirloin)
  • 1 Tablespoon sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons reduced sodium soy sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 Tablespoon sake
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1 green onion, sliced
  • Cooked jasmine rice

Directions

  • Add oil to pan (sesame or olive is fine), bring to medium-high heat
  • Add onions and cook until translucent
  • Add meat, and when mostly browned add sugar and stir
  • Once meat is fully cooked, add soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sake
  • Reduce heat to a simmer for 3 minutes, and then slowly pour in eggs in a spiral motion to distribute evenly
  • Add green onions, put lid on pan, and lower heat
  • Once eggs are cooked, serve with rice

Tip

In the photo, I added kimchi. I also made blistered shishito peppers, and a Japanese spinach salad.
